Business
Business is a vital component to any successful and healthy community. Businesses provide products and services fostering a competitive market place while attracting a variety of customers to areas such as the downtown. Through job creation, capital investment, and building renovations, downtown districts would not survive without this type of development.
MainStreet programs play an important role in the recruitment, retention, and promotion of local, downtown businesses. In three of the Four-Point Approach areas, local businesses are one of the main focuses of the program’s purpose.
Promotion offers businesses opportunities for advertising, retail promotions, special events, and marketing campaigns communicating the district’s unique characteristics, business establishments, and activities to shoppers, investors, and potential business and property owners, and visitors.
Design focuses on the physical appearance of downtown including public and private building, storefronts, signs, parking areas, landscaping, merchandising, window displays, promotional materials, etc.
Economic Positioning strengthens economic assets while diversifying its economic base by balancing the commercial mix, sharpening the competitiveness and merchandising skills of business owners, and attracting new businesses that the market can support boosting the profitability of the district. The goal is to build a commercial district that responds to the needs of today’s consumers.
The Portales MainStreet Program currently offers numerous programs and activities in each of these areas for our district business and property owners including property acquisition and sale, trainings, façade grants, resources, commercial property listings, promotions, cooperative advertising opportunities, website exposure, business directories, and much more. |
